Conservative organisation in and around Oakham has deep roots, with the Oakham and District name appearing in records as far back as 1940, when the Oakham and District Women’s Conservative Association was active. Over the decades, the branch formed part of the old Rutland & Stamford Conservative Association and later Rutland & Melton Conservative Association, adapting as constituency boundaries changed while continuing the traditional work of campaigning, fundraising and supporting Conservative candidates across Oakham and the surrounding villages.
Today, Oakham & District is once again part of the Rutland & Stamford Conservative Association and remains an active local branch. It runs a regular programme of political and social events, including supper clubs, lunches and member gatherings, while supporting local campaigning and Conservative representatives across the area. With a history stretching back generations, the branch continues to bring members together and play an important role in Conservative life across Oakham and the surrounding district.
